The unique pneumatic organ was constructed by the world famous organ master builder Wilhelm Sauer from Frankfurt/Oder in 1900; it is opus number 832. It has 14 registers. As an original example of a romantic organ, it conveys the sound of the period of construction. The pewter organ pipes were not turned in to support the war in 1917 because of the Baroque organ front of the previous organ. “Karl Kehl, Intonator” is printed on one of the pipes. This organ was restored in 1998 by an organ building firm, Christian Scheffler, also from Frankfurt/Oder and the missing swells were replaced. The restoration cost over 50,000 DM which were raised in good part by donations from the congregation. Since this is the only extant original pneumatic instrument, this romantic organ is an absolute treasure.

A fine impression of the organ sound can be gained from the CD produced in 1999 by Hans Henning Lohse
“The Organ in Breitenberg”.
